We may notice “dot” symbols placed on one end of the transformer windings in transformer schematics. These symbols are placed according to the dot convention rule. The dot notation is used to identify the phase relation between primary and secondary current and voltage in a transformer.
I knew what the dot meant, but didn't know until I read this why sometimes I'd see the dots of the primary and secondary windings mirrored and sometimes inverted.
