Thanx for that Adason, about what expected for the big panel, i am surprised the tweeters go as low as they do.

Actually, Monsoon used natural rollof of that tweeter to cross it at 1500 Hz. I would cross higher.

I should have some the XOs from the tweeter, IIRC 2nd order.

Started the build.
Off course foam core . But it will be braced by wood and lots of gorilla glue. Strong, stiff but light. And I got some more mh-500 from ebay.

Main reason for two tweeters is impedance, I do not like 4 ohm speakers. Now its all 8 ohm.
All glued together. Now to the crossover. I am thinking 5kHz. Mainly because I want to suppress that 7kHz bump on mid, plus it will relieve tweeter from overexcursion. It may be capable 1.5kHz, but why push it.

I popped my M1000 panels on top of a tangband long throw 5" subwoofer



they make great desk speakers / nearfield monitors

Sadly not. I did buy a mic but have not tried measuring these yet.

Started working on the crossover. Just 4uF for the tweeters, and 0.25mH for mid planars. 5kHz first order. Thats what i normally prefer if drivers behave. I try flat response and phase.
Measured response when tweeter and mid were wired in the same polarity (blue) and oposite polarity (brown).
Cleary cap is swithing in first order, tweeter needs to be flipped.

When tweeter is not flipped, thare is dip around crossover frequency and phase goes to hell.

In the flipped tweeter, all is good, phase behaves well, response is relatively flat. Albeit slightly rising, which does not botther me.

Here is Stereophile review of monsoon fpf-1000 floorstanding speakers. Interestingly monsoon selected 5kHz for crossover. But had terrible suckout in that region. Wonder if they got tweeter polarity wrong.

Forgot to show distortion. 7kHz hump and its distortion is gone.

Now to find suitable midbass to cover 150 to ~500 Hz. This is heading to 4way system. Just like I did with previous planars.

Made some progress on the planars. 4way full open baffle system. Still tweaking the midbass crossover.

I worked a little on midbass crossover, since its raining. Got second order working ok. This is how it looks with 150Hz high pass by simple active crossover and 300Hz low pass.
Just to bridge 15" woofer to the planar mids.

Total system response. Yes, there are room modes. Its a small room and no eq is used. Sounds ok. After some more painting I will test it downstairs in the main system.
